Project HQ

 Project HQ

1st Fetcham Scout Group is a thriving Scout Group that sits at the heart of our community.   We have over 200 boys and girls aged 5 – 18 years along with countless adult volunteers who all enjoy the challenge and adventure that Scouting offers.

We are now facing our biggest challenge yet…. Building a new Scout HQ and Community Hub for the people of Fetcham and the surrounding area to use and enjoy.

  • The past:

Our current Scout Hut was built in 1956, for £1500, by the Scouts and their parents and has come to the end of its useable life:

  • The present:

The Greenhouse  received planning permission, before Christmas and  plans are underway to make our new Scout HQ a reality.

The project to develop a new community centre to replace our current Scout Hut is a partnership between 1st Fetcham Scout Group, St Mary’s        Church, Mole Valley District Council and the broader Fetcham community and is being led by a not-for-profit community interest company, formed specifically for this purpose.

The new modern and versatile building has been designed in collaboration with our Scout Group and for the wider community in order to offer much more space  for activities, easier accessibility, storage and will have more facilities than we currently have like more toilets, meeting rooms and a cafe.

In order to secure further funding we are working closely with The Greenhouse team who are leading an application through Your Fund Surrey, and we encourage you to please support the project with a ‘Thumbs Up’ on Surrey County Council’s ‘Your Fund Surrey’ portal.

We ask that you do this and also ask your friends and family members to join in.  The easiest way to register your support for our new modern building is by clicking on:

reading the simple instructions then pressing the ‘Give Thumbs Up’ button.

This will make a huge difference in helping us raise the additional funds from Surrey County Council and also with the ongoing discussions with Mole Valley District Council.  We currently have 70 Thumbs Up with a target to achieve 500.  Can the 1st Fetcham Scout Group family and friends make this happen?  All you need to do this is two minutes, an internet connection and an email address.

  • The Future:

Our aim now is to submit a full planning application in the coming days with a view to, potentially, commencing the build phase in 2020 and having the building operational in 2021.

The plan is to locate the new building to the site of the current children’s playground.  The children’s playground will be redesigned and new play areas and equipment provided by MVDC.  The current Scout Hut will be demolished and that area will provide much needed additional car parking.  The surrounding areas will be landscaped and the whole recreation area will be open for everyone to use.

A community café and terrace has been proposed, along with a hall space, catering standard kitchen, a variety of meeting rooms as well as a “changing places” disability toilet to enable and encourage all members of our community to come together and make Fetcham an even more supportive and thriving community.
