Project HQ

 Project HQ

1st Fetcham Scout Group is a thriving Scout Group that sits at the heart of our community.   We have over 200 boys and girls aged 5 – 18 years along with countless adult volunteers who all enjoy the challenge and adventure that Scouting offers.

We are now facing our biggest challenge yet…. Building a new Scout HQ and Community Hub for the people of Fetcham and the surrounding area to use and enjoy.

The past:

Our current Scout Hut was built in 1956, for £1500, by the Scouts and their parents and has come to the end of its useable life:

The present:

The Greenhouse

A community building for Fetcham.   Our project to replace 1st Fetcham Scout Group’s aging Scout Hut has taken a new exciting direction.

The original project to build a new Scout HQ has evolved into a project to develop a community building to be used, not only by the Scout Group, but by all members of the local community.

The new building will be called The Greenhouse and will offer facilities and activities for everyone including young people, families and older people, whilst also giving the Scouts a new home.

A partnership between 1st Fetcham Scout Group, St Mary’s Church, Mole Valley District Council and the Fetcham community has enabled us to secure the funding to move forward with this fabulous project.  A not-for-profit Community Interest Company has been established and will oversee the running of the building.

We would like to thank all of our main donors and everyone in both the Scouting and local community who have worked so tirelessly over the past three years to raise funds to make our vision a reality.

The Future:

Our aim now is to submit a full planning application in the coming days with a view to, potentially, commencing the build phase in 2020 and having the building operational in 2021.

The plan is to locate the new building to the site of the current children’s playground.  The children’s playground will be redesigned and new play areas and equipment provided by MVDC.  The current Scout Hut will be demolished and that area will provide much needed additional car parking.  The surrounding areas will be landscaped and the whole recreation area will be open for everyone to use.

A community café and terrace has been proposed, along with a hall space, catering standard kitchen, a variety of meeting rooms as well as a “changing places” disability toilet to enable and encourage all members of our community to come together and make Fetcham an even more supportive and thriving community.
