Project HQ3

Project HQ – the story so far…

1st Fetcham Scout Group is a thriving Scout Group that sits at the heart of our community.  We have over 140 boys a nd girls aged 5 – 18 years along with countless adult volunteers who all enjoy the challenge and adventure that Scouting offers.

We are now facing our biggest challenge yet – building a new Scout HQ and we’ve had quite a journey already…

What’s the latest?

We are back to the drawing board and a new HQ3 project team is being put together.  We plan to replace the current HQ with a new one within a realistic budget.  We still need to continue to fundraise through events and grant applications, but we are determined to do our best and achieve our goal.  If you would like to get involved with the project team, fundraising, media, financially or any other way we would love to hear from you.

What happened to plans for The Greenhouse?

In 2017 we were granted planning permission to build a brand new HQ located behind our current building which would have enabled us to offer Scouting to greater numbers of young people.  The plan was that the new building would also be used by the wider community, but we still needed to raise £600,000!

In 2019 we welcomed the invitation by a Community Interest Company to join with us to help fund and build our dream HQ.  The Greenhouse was redesigned with wider community in mind and new planning permission was granted in 2020.  Unfortunately this project has now been terminated and further information about that can be found on The Greenhouse website : https://greenhousefetcham.org/

Why do we need a new HQ?

Our current Scout Hut was built in 1956, for £1500, by the Scouts and their parents and has come to the end of its useable life.  While efforts are made to keep the building safe, inevitably the structure is beyond long term repair and the new HQ will not only give a save environment for our members to grow but will invest in future generations of the young

people of Fetcham.
