Queen Scout Award

Date: 7th May 2023 Author: Jenny Harlow

One of our Scouts who had received his Queen Scout last year attended the parade at Windsor this year.    This is his thanks to the Group

A big thank you to all over the years who have supported me in scouting, helping to develop and push me to where I am today.    I received the Queen Scout award last St George’s day. This year I was able to attend the Windsor award holder ceremony with other Queen Scouts, new King Scouts and Scouts who aided in the Queen’s lying in state (operation feather).

The day was laid out with a marching band, parade, speeches from Bear Gyrlls (Chief Scout) and Carl Hankinson (Chief Commissioner). Visit from Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. Promise renewal in St George’s Chapel and a chance to pay respect to the late Queen.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
